Physics is the fundamental backbone of all science and technology. A physics degree will allow you to develop the analytical and problem-solving skills that are universally sought after by graduate and professional schools as well as by employers. With the demand for scientifically literate college graduates being as strong as ever this indicates that a solid foundation in chemistry and physics is a must to stay on the cutting edge of nearly any science or engineering field.
Find Your Path
Our programs offer rigorous training in analytical and quantitative skills for rewarding and challenging jobs in a variety of sectors, including science, education, law, business, technology, and more.
This program provides a strong foundation in classical and modern physics to solve quantitative physics problems, perform experimental work, and effectively communicate results.
This concentration of the Physics, BS will prepare graduates to enter nuclear power plant specific training or attend graduate school for nuclear physics or nuclear engineering.
Complete a BS in physics while earning an integrated Master of Arts in Teaching where you will learn the skills necessary to teach this content to students at the secondary level.
The physics minor provides a foundation in classical and modern physics and allows students to explore more advanced topics in physics through elective choices.
Physics Club - SPS chapter
The Augusta University Physics Club is an award-winning chapter of the National Society of Physics Students organization. Our goal is to connect Physics and Biophysics students with each other and faculty through informational meetings, "get to know each other sessions", research talks, panel sessions, and other events. We also arrange time for our club members with visiting researchers so that students can ask questions and learn from them.
Research Opportunities
Research opportunities are available for both undergraduate and graduate students at the College of Science and Mathematics.
Awards Night
Students are nominated for departmental awards and recognized at the annual Honors Convocation.
Scholarship
Qualified students majoring in Physics who have completed PHYS 2212 with an A or B, are in good academic standing (minimum GPA of 3.0) and meet financial eligibility requirements are eligible to receive scholarships for up to $8,000 per academic year. Scholarships can be renewed for up to two years if eligibility is maintained.
These scholarships are funded through the National Science Foundation (NSF) program Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (S-STEM) award 1930341.
