Reese Library traces its roots to the Junior College of Augusta. In 1960, the library moved into a renovated warehouse on its present campus, then known as Augusta College.

During the 1970s, the current library was built. It opened in January 1977. In 2006, the University adjoined the new Jaguar Student Activities Center (JSAC) to the Library, placing Reese at the center of research and engagement.
