Master of Education in Teacher Leadership

About the Program

The M.Ed. in Leadership in the College of Education at Augusta University offers students a curriculum that addresses being a leader in a P-12 educational setting. The program prepares educators to assume positions such as lead teacher, assistant principal, or central office staff. Prospective students must meet the College of Education and The Graduate School criteria for admission.

The Master’s degree in Leadership has two concentrations: School Administration and Teacher Leadership. The School Administration concentration leads to initial Tier I Educational Leadership certification in Georgia. The Teacher Leadership concentration leads to the Teacher Leadership certification in Georgia.

Applicants who hold a Master’s degree or higher and a standard professional certificate may complete the non-degree, certification-only program to add either initial Tier I Educational Leadership certification or Teacher Leadership certification respectively to their current Georgia Educator credentials. Courses in the program of study are scheduled in 8-week terms and offered online to provide students the opportunity to complete the programs in a timely fashion.

Key Highlights

M.Ed. Leadership: The 36-hour M.Ed. in Leadership is a fully online performance-based program approved by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. Candidates have significant opportunities to apply knowledge andskills in real educational settings while enrolled in the program. Educators who complete the School Administration concentration will be eligible for Tier I Educational Leadership certification in Georgia. Educators who complete the Teacher Leadership concentration will be eligible for Teacher Leadership certification in Georgia.
Certificate-Only Programs in Leadership: The Certificate-only programs are 18-24 hour programs, depending on the leadership certification area sought by candidates. Applicants for certification only in leadership must hold a master’s degree or higher and a standard professional teaching certificate. The programs offer candidates significant opportunities to apply knowledge, skills, and dispositions acquired in real educational leadership settings. Educators who complete the relevant program will be eligible for the Tier I Educational Leadership certification or Teacher Leadership certification in Georgia.
