The MCG Clerkship Procedure Elective is a two-week self-study elective offered to
MCG Clerkship medical students. The goals of this elective course are:
Allow review and practice of key skills to promote safer and higher quality procedures
during medical training
Provide a deeper understanding of the risks, benefits and challenges of common invasive
procedures while allowing for legitimate peripheral participation
Build advocacy skills for patients undergoing invasive procedures
Outline of the Elective
Because this is a self-study course all the content and requirements have been designed
for you to complete asynchronously during your two-week elective block. A link to
the full syllabus can be found by clicking here. In brief the course consists of didactic (video and slides) instruction around core
bedside and invasive procedures that you will encounter during clerkship and enrichment.
During your elective you must review all course content, complete the test and reflection
assignment, and submit 5 videos of you performing key procedures.

Step 2 – Practice and record your procedural videos
Step 3 – Select and perform any 5 procedures from the list below, record yourself performing
them, and upload the videos for submission. You can practice any procedure as many
times as you want, but only 5 videos are required for this course.

BVM (Bag-Valve-Mask)
Donning/doffing PPE
Lumbar puncture
Foley insertion (male or female)
