Overview

Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology is the specialty of dentistry and pathology which deals with the nature of disease, identification, and management of diseases affecting the oral and maxillofacial regions. Additionally, it investigates the causes, processes and effects of these diseases. The practice of oral and maxillofacial pathology includes research and diagnosis using clinical, radiographic, microscopic and biochemical examination as well as management of patients.

BIOPSY SERVICE

We offer comprehensive microscopic diagnostic service to clinicians throughout the state of Georgia as well as other states. We also offer consultative microscopic pathology services to hospitals and commercial pathology laboratories. The Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology laboratory, Department of Oral Health & Diagnostic Health Sciences, processes specimens sent to us expeditiously, usually signing out reports within 24 hours of receipt of the surgical specimens after routine tissue processing and staining procedures.

How It Works

Pathology reports are routinely faxed to the referring clinicians as soon as they are ready and signed. The pathologist usually calls the clinician to discuss cases of cancer and other cases with unusual pathological findings.

Our Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology laboratory provides contributing clinicians free biopsy and mailing kits with prepaid postage for return mail which include formalin containers, history forms and details for proper handling and submission of tissue specimens.

For additional information and placing request orders for biopsy kits and for any other services please contact Ms. Dora Hawes or Ms. Regina Hand at (706) 721-2721; or fax request to (706) 721-4937.
