Dr. Marshall F. Newman is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Augusta University. He serves as the Interim Program Director, the Oral/Maxillofacial representative for Cleft and Craniofacial Surgery at AUMC, and previously served as the Director of Undergraduate Oral/Maxillofacial Education. Dr. Newman grew up in Northern Georgia/Western North Carolina and is very excited to continue serving the community of Augusta and its neighbors. He completed his undergraduate training at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the fields of Biology and Applied Mathematics and extended his study at the University of Glasgow in Scotland before returning to the United States to continue training in South Carolina.
Dr. Newman obtained his doctoral degree at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC and was Valedictorian of his class. He remained at the Medical University of South Carolina to complete residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He subsequently completed two separate advanced surgical fellowships.
His first fellowship was completed in Advanced Craniomaxillofacial Surgery and Trauma in Portland, OR with the world-renowned surgeons of the Head and Neck Institute, focusing primarily on cancer and trauma surgery of the craniomaxillofacial region. Dr. Newman was subsequently selected for the fellowship position at the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando, FL, consistently one of the highest producing centers for childbirth and advanced fetal, infant, and child care in the nation.
During his second fellowship in Pediatric Craniomaxillofacial Surgery, Dr. Newman completed a rigorous training program dedicated to all aspects of Craniofacial Surgery and children of all ages, something near and dear to his heart. The subspecialized team at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children treats a wide variety of congenital and acquired facial conditions, including cleft lip and palate as well as those arising from various syndromes.
Dr. Newman is board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and has obtained a secondary board Certificate of Added Qualification in Pediatric Craniomaxillofacial Surgery, demonstrating a consistent dedication to the highest quality of care recognized by board. Dr. Newman is a Fellow of the American Academy of Craniomaxillofacial Surgeons and has co-authored multiple papers and contributed to book chapters related to Pediatric and Adult Craniomaxillofacial Surgery. He is joined in Augusta by his loving wife, son, and daughter, and is very grateful to be here.
