Dr. Lopez was born on the US Air Force Base in Torrejon, Spain. He was an EMT in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He graduated with an undergraduate B.S. degree in Biology from the University of South Florida. He then went on to graduate with an MD degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine. He completed a general internship at the University of California San Franscisco at Fresno and then he completed a pediatric residency at the University of Miami Jackson Memorial Hospital. Dr. Lopez went on to complete his residency in Emergency Medicine at Milwaukee Regional Medical Center Froedert Hospital. He has been a faculty member at the Medical College of Georgia in the department of Emergency Medicine and has been the student clerkship director as well as teaching Emergency Medicine and Pediatric Emergency Medicine to students, residents and fellows. He is active in the EMS fellowship teaching fellows, EMT and paramedic students. Dr. Lopez also serves as the Medical Director for Columbia County Fire Department and is the chairman of the Columbia County EMA committee. His interests include student teaching, prehospital care as well as emergency services for children.
