What is epilepsy?

Epilepsy, also known as seizure disorder, is a condition in which patients have unprovoked seizures.  Epilepsy is the 4thmost common neurological disorder and effects millions of people worldwide. Epilepsy causes significant disability secondary not only to injury and medication effects, but also secondary to driving restrictions that limit employability. Some patients with epilepsy may also succumb secondary to their illness in a form of sudden unexplained death (SUDEP) that may be associated with epilepsy.
