William B. Davis, MD

Dr. Davis served as Division Chief of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Medical College of Georgia, Augusta University from 1992-2018. Dr. Davis is a graduate of Emory University Medical School. He received his post graduate education in internal medicine and pulmonary/critical care at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. In 1980 he moved to the Pulmonary Branch, National Institutes of Health as a Senior Staff Fellow. In 1983, Dr. Davis was recruited for his first faculty appointment at the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio where he rose to the rank of Professor of Medicine. He was recruited to Medical College of Georgia in 1992 as Professor of Medicine and Chief, Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine. Under his leadership the section expanded to 16 faculty and 9 pulmonary fellows.

Dr. Davis has authored over 80 scientific papers and book chapters. He is an associate editor of Respiratory Medicine. He has been active in the American Lung Association at the national and regional level. He served on the American Lung Association Research Fellowship Review Committee for 10 years. Dr. Davis has been a speaker and organizer for several continuing medical education conferences, including the Tri-State Consecutive Case Conference in Ponte Vedra, Florida and MCG Critical Care Medicine Conference.

Recognized as a Best Doctor in America, he has a large clinical practice in pulmonary and critical care with a special interest in interstitial lung disease. He is heavily involved in the education of medical students, house staff and pulmonary fellows. Dr. Davis was awarded the Distinguished Faculty Award for Patient Care by the MCG Faculty Senate in 2010. He was awarded the J.H. Keels, Jr. Chair in Pulmonary Medicine in 2012.
