LTC Matthew O. Miller has experience leading diverse Army and Joint organizations from the tactical to the strategic level as an Engineer and Strategic Intelligence Officer.
Commissioned at West Point, New York in 2004 as an Engineer Officer, LTC Miller served in the 82nd Engineer Battalion in Bamberg, Germany, and the 9th Engineer Battalion in Schweinfurt, Germany where he deployed to Baghdad, Iraq in support of Operation Iraq Freedom. He later served in the 169th Engineer Battalion, the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), the 513th Military Intelligence Brigade and United States European Command (USEUCOM). His military leadership positions include Sapper Platoon Leader, Company Executive Officer, Company Commander, Assistant Operations Officer, Geospatial-Intelligence Instructor, DIA Branch Chief, Executive Assistant to the DIA/MARC Director, Theater Intelligence Brigade Fusion Chief, Levant Branch Chief and the Europe, Aegean, and Levant Intelligence Division Chief and Russia Division Chief at the JIOCEUR Analysis Center (JAC) USEUCOM. Currently, LTC Miller serves as the Professor of Military Science as Augusta University.
LTC Miller’s military education includes the Engineer Officer Basic Course, Engineer Captain’s Career Course, National Intelligence University, Command and General Staff College, Joint and Combined Warfighting School and Defense Strategist Course. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management with a focus in Environmental Engineering from the United States Military Academy, a Master of Science in Engineering Management from University Missouri S&T, Certificate in Military Construction Management, and a Master of Science of Strategic Intelligence.
His military awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Intelligence Meritorious Unit Citation, and Air Assault School.
As private citizen, Matthew serves as co-founder of The KJ Smith Legacy Project which honors the life, service and sacrifice of his fallen friend and teammate, CPT KJ Smith, from the West Point Soccer Team. Every year on December 8th, The KJ Smith Legacy Project leads community service, work outs, and other creative ways of remembering and honoring the service and sacrifice of CPT KJ Smith. Matthew also serves on the Board of Directors of the Strong Grey Line, a West Point Class of 2004 charitable giving governing body that serves the needs of fallen classmates and their families, as well as classmates in need.
LTC Miller is a proud Army Brat and claims Augusta, Georgia as home. He is an active member of St. Mary on Hill Catholic Community in Augusta, GA. He and his wife, Shawn, originally from Jacksonville, FL make their home with their five children Grant, Kevin, Andrew, Margaret, and Evelyn.
