Series of speakers will lead up to 2024 Innovate student pitch competition
The 2024 Innovate Pitch competition will hold several events leading up to the competition finals on March 28, all at the Georgia Cyber Innovation and Training Center.
Since 1973, Sand Hills Literary Magazine has been committed to publishing the highest quality of student creative writing and visual art—including work by alumni and award-winning authors Louise Shivers and Judith Ortiz Cofer.
More recently, magazine contributors have also published in Oxford American, Seventeen, and Playboy. Students who contribute creative nonfiction, fiction, poetry, and visual art to Sand Hills benefit from experiencing the process of submitting creative work for publication.
Students whose work is selected for publication benefit by receiving the encouragement and positive feedback necessary for creative artists. The student staff who create the magazine benefit from journal publication experience. The Augusta University and Greater Augusta communities benefit from this showcase of local, creative talent.

In addition to upholding this long-standing tradition of publishing quality student artwork and writing, Sand Hills seeks to also grow in scope and to further elevate the quality of our publication and the reputation of our students.
Beginning in Fall 2017, we plan to market the magazine as a national publication. Sand Hills will still remain a predominantly Augusta University student publication—with at least 51 percent of the published material coming from Augusta University contributors. However, this enhanced effort to be more diverse and inclusive will put us on par with the practice of journals at our peer institutions.
An undergraduate student editorial board annually selects the best art, poetry and prose submissions and marshals the magazine through all phases of production. Student editors also select the winners of the Sand Hills prizes for Best Artwork, Best Poetry and Best Prose.
Each year, the Creative Writing Program in the Department of English and World Languages brings prominent authors to campus for readings and discussion. Here are some video highlights.

Augusta University's first executive leadership cohort is expected to complete the program in June.
“A comprehensive and ongoing policy process is a critical component of creating and supporting a culture of ethics and integrity, which reflects our mission and values,” said Chris Melcher, vice president and general counsel for Augusta University.
Preventing the spread of COVID-19 makes it an unusual circumstance for coordinating volunteer efforts.
