Rheumatoid arthritis is an inflammatory disease affecting up to 1% of the population that carries significant pain and debility due to joint damage but can also affect multiple organs and leads to earlier mortality in many patients. Research has shown importance of genetics and other serum biomarkers in predicted these effects and in which patients they may occur. Our project aims to enroll VA patients with rheumatoid arthritis in a growing national database including clinical data and blood samples. This database serves as a resource for local or national investigators to study these serologic and potentially genetic markers using a large patient population. Patients will participate by allowing an additional blood draw and medical history information to be collected in addition to their regular clinical follow up.
