Peer Educator Roles

We offer several distinct roles to suit different talents and interests:

1. Embedded Tutor

  • Collaborates with faculty to support specific courses.
  • Attends class sessions and provides tailored academic support to students.

2. Content Tutor

  • Offers one-on-one or group tutoring in specific subjects.
  • Helps students master course material and develop effective study habits.

3. Academic Coach

  • Assists students with time management, goal setting, and learning strategies.
  • Focuses on building transferable skills for overall academic success.

4. Front Desk Peer Educator

  • Serves as the first point of contact for students visiting the ASC.
  • Manages check-ins, schedules appointments, and provides information about services.

Assists with administrative tasks to ensure the smooth operation of the ASC. 

Responsibilities

As a Peer Educator, you will support the ASC’s mission of fostering academic success. Responsibilities include:

  • Embedded Tutors, Content Tutors, and Coaches:

    • Provide academic support through one-on-one or group sessions.
    • Adapt strategies to meet individual student needs.
    • Maintain professionalism and document session details accurately.
  • Front Desk Peer Educators:

    • Welcome students and manage check-ins.
    • Assist with scheduling appointments and sharing information about ASC services.
    • Perform administrative duties such as organizing materials and maintaining records.

Eligibility and Requirements

Eligibility

  • Current Augusta University student enrolled in at least 10 credit hours.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, with at least a 3.0 in the course(s) you wish to tutor (if applying for a tutoring role).
  • Faculty recommendation in the subject area you wish to tutor.

Requirements

  • Attend mandatory tutor training sessions.
  • Enroll in ASII-1201: Training for Peer Educators (for tutoring and coaching roles).

    Training and Support

    We invest in our Peer Educators with robust training:

    • ASII-1201 Course: In-depth preparation for tutoring and coaching roles.
    • Observational Opportunities: New tutors observe three sessions, while returning tutors observe peer sessions to refine techniques.
    • Faculty Referrals: Ensure professional and knowledgeable staff.
    • Exhibit professionalism, strong communication, and time management skills.

    • Proof of GPA and course grades (if applicable).
