Any course which allows for waitlisting will prompt students (when registering in POUNCE) to add themselves to the list when the course reaches the maximum enrollment. For detailed information on waitlisting, please review the information below.
What is a waitlist?
A waitlist is a queue of students who could not initially register for a particular class, but are still interested in taking it should a seat become available. The waitlist allows students to take a place in line and if another student drops the class, they can register for that seat.
When will the waitlist option open and about how long will the waitlist period last?
The waitlisting period begins the same day and time when registration opens and will last the typical length of drop/add, and will not extend any farther than normal registration.
How do I know if a class is available for waitlisting?
If a class is available for waitlisting and is full when you try to register for it, you will be given the following error message: "Closed - there are # student(s) on the waitlist for this class," meaning that there are still spots open on the waitlist, or "Closed - waitlist full." meaning that there are no spots left open on the waitlist. To add a class if waitlisting is available, click the dropdown under the "action" dialogue box and select "Waitlist."
Will anything prevent me from being put on the waitlist?
All typical registration holds or errors will prevent you from adding a waitlisted class. This includes such issues as holds, class level restrictions, and time conflicts. If there is an issue, you will be given a “registration error” message when you attempt to waitlist the class.
Can I register for different sections of the same course?
No. You may only choose one course section to be registered or waitlisted in.
Am I automatically registered in a class once my turn comes up on the waitlist?
No. You will receive an email to your AU email address when a seat becomes available. You must register yourself via POUNCE within 24 hours or the seat will go to the next student on the waitlist.
Which email address will the system use to notify me if a seat becomes available for me in a class in which I am on the waitlist?
You will be contacted at your official Augusta University email address. If you have are having issues logging into your JAGmail account, please contact IT Services at 706-721-4000.
Can I get on a waitlist for a class that has a time conflict with a class that I am actually registered for?
You cannot waitlist for a class that has a time conflict with another class.
Is there a limit on how many classes I can waitlist for each semester?
No; however, please think carefully before adding yourself to a waitlist, and be sure that you are prepared to take the seat should it open up. This will ensure other interested students are able to add themselves to the waitlist as well.
There is a waitlist option, but it won't allow me to waitlist in POUNCE.
If you are unable to waitlist for a course in POUNCE, it is because the waitlist is full. Each waitlist has a maximum number of students who are allowed to waitlist for that section.
Can my professor add me to a waitlist?
No, only you can add yourself to a waitlist. If there are issues and you need assistance, please contact the Registrar’s Office at 706-446-1430 or visit www.augusta.edu/registrar or email registrar@augusta.edu.
Am I guaranteed a seat if a class if I get onto the waitlist?
No. A waitlist will help ensure that if any seats become available, they will be assigned on a first-come-first-serve basis, but being on a waitlist does not guarantee that you will be able to obtain a seat in the class.
Will I be charged for the class I am waitlisted for?
No; however, if a seats becomes available and you register for that section, you will be responsible for those additional charges.
How can I view a list of students on my course's waitlist?
You can view a list of students by logging into POUNCE and going to the Faculty and Advisors Dashboar. Select Class List and navigate to the Wait List tab.
Can I reorder my waitlist?
No. Students add themselves to the waitlist through POUNCE on a first-come, first-served basis.
Can I increase the size of my waitlist?
Waitlist limits may be increased; however, these requests must be sent to our office by the department chair for processing.
Can I increase the size of my class if students have waitlisted?
Maximum seats may be adjusted but this should only be done if you intend for those already on the waitlist to be included in those numbers.
Can I ask my department to give a student an enrollment over-ride?
No. Enrollment overrides into classes with waitlists cause technical problems within the system and for students on the waitlist.
How are students notified when a spot is available in the class?
The next student on the waitlist is notified via their University email when a seat becomes available. At that time, they should log in to POUNCE and register or drop the course. They have 24 hours after the email was sent to register before the seat is available to the next student on the waitlist. Please see the Waitlisting FAQ for Students.
