Clinical Experience Block 4 

The PCL Clinical Experience includes: Telemedicine Patient Experience Session, Clinical Procedures Session, and Ultrasound Session. 

BLOCK 4 OBJECTIVES AND ASSESSMENTS

Schedule of the Day

 

12:50 - 1:00PM	ZOOM ORIENTATION Make sure you use the QR Code to sign in!
1:00 - 3:00PM	Telemedicine Encounters (1:00 or 2:00 start)  The interviewer will be conducting the encounter while the scribe observes Complete the SOAP Presentation Debrief Qualtrics form with a faculty member during your debrief session  AMWELL NOW      SOAP PRESENTATION DEBRIEF    CITRIX ACCESS    STAFF DOCUMENTATION QUALTRICS SURVEY  Clinical Procedures (1:00 or 2:00 start)  Students will be practicing obtaining IV and IO access on task trainers.
3:00 - 4:00PM	Cardiac Ultrasound Open Zoom link M1s will obtain required cardiac and IVC images with their partners Have US debrief up while obtaining images to receive feedback from staff Recommend saving all images, but you MUST save IVC longitudinal view to upload into D2L post quiz Gowning-Watch First  INFORMED CONSENT  ULTRASOUND DEBRIEF SURVEY  Ultrasound Image Upload

 

REFRESH

• Review Medical Student Note Writing
• Review all EMR videos under FAQ on website
• Review PCL Note Template with additions specific for primary care and chronic conditions and Example Note that follows this template

PREWORK

• Review last 3 minutes of Medical Student Note Writing (signing and forwarding the note)
• Review your patient's medical history and prepare for your telehealth visit
• Watch basic telemedicine exam and documentation 
• Set up an account and complete around ½ of the Tour of Motivational
  Interviewing Course:
  • https://healtheknowledge.org/course/index.php?categoryid=53
    • The whole 4 hour course must be completed before you return for your block 5 session.

POSTWORK

• Complete your patient's note by 5:00 PM the day after your patient encounter and sign/submit your note to Clinical Experience Preceptor for signature and PCL preceptor as a reviewer. If have SP encounter, send note to your PCL preceptor in email for feedback. If this is not completed on time, you will lose professionalism points.
• Once your note is sent to your Clinical Experience Preceptor, fill out Staff Documentation Qualtrics Survey to receive documentation feedback.
• Complete the Class of 2027 PCL Clinical Experience Post-Visit Survey. If this is not completed on time you will lose professionalism points.
• Complete the Tour of Motivational Interviewing Course prior to the start of your block 5 session.

Ultrasound

PREWORK

• Students will be scanning the cardiac and IVC views on their PCE partner/colleague. This involves placing the ultrasound probe on the chest wall.  Please make sure you review the images required prior to your PCE day and complete the attestation to serve as a student ultrasound volunteer in your pre-quiz.
